While on the Roof of the World Rally 2009 we drove along the Pamir Highway, the second highest highway in the world. Along the way we encountered many obstacles including narrow road, waterfalls (on the road), rivers (across the road), and military. This is an example of our adventure.

  • looks like a gerat adventure!! can u tell me how much it cost ye as i am thinking of doing it next year.

  • @creeves1cross I HIGHLY recommend it! It was an amazing adventure. As for costs, the main one was fuel, which depends on your route and what car you drive (but fuel is cheap). We slept in the car almost every night other than the occasional CouchSurfing or when a gracious host would take us in. Food is very cheap and the only other real cost (besides maybe car repairs en route) are visas. Check out the website (which is being redone from what I am told) for a lot of answers. charityrallies . org

  • You'll be glad to know that the waterfall is still there this year and the road conditions remain 'as is'.

  • @maxidognelson Whew. I was worried something safe might have replaced it. haha What an amazing trip.

  • @MurrayJ3 Na, nothing safe...had a 6.3 earthquake in the region that shifted a few large rocks in a downward direction. Keeps the speed limit down...no need for sleeping policemen.

  • @maxidognelson Hopefully they match well with the enormous boulders (aka sides of mountains) we had to drive around. I think ours were dislodged by the dynamiting going on immediately around us. Safety comes first, you know...

  • Strange...I thought I'd commented on this one. Anyway. I've watched most of your vids now (hadn't realized before that there were so many), and...by god, this is so much worse than our tunnel.

I've also finally recorded our tapes onto my pc, so hopefully there'll be a couple of scenes from our route coming up this year =).

  • We were in a Ford Mondeo Estate station wagon with broken suspension and a completely rusted undercarriage. Not the best car for this journey. haha But we made it!

  • wow that nut

what kind of car were u in

did notice i know u siad it but layztness
