Muscles at rest burn 5 calories per pound, fat burns 2 calories per pound. Adding muscle mass is VERY difficult to do this. Thinking that your body has a way to burn calories more easily is silly and that it's just a silly notion. You cannot increase your metabolic rate.

  • @AlbertaBeefy I should correct myself, exercise increases your total metabolic expenditure for the day, but not your rate.

  • It's crazy to think it's EASY to increase the metabolic rate... sure, you can increase it marginally by adding muscle.

I think exercise is the surest way - it quite obviously increases your metabolic rate.

It is, however, easy to decrease the metabolic rate - any diet too low in calories will do that... I see people trying 500kcal / day ... they're starving. Heck, at 1200 kcal/ day they're starving.

Keep you metabolic rate decent by eating enough, and burn via exercise and low-carb. My 2c
