Teaser for animated adaptation of "The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath". The film is crudely animated because of tight budget, but as it goes on it becomes richer and richer with detail and the animation progresses well. The score music and voice acting is said to be very good. Overall, this seems to be one of the better receieved adaptations of Lovecraft's work. • I've fixed the url, it was the wrong one beforehand. Please check out the website and continue to support low budget cinema at it's finest.

  • It was made on a limited budget over the internet, that's why it is so crudely done. But it is one of the most well recieved adaptations of Lovecraft. I'm serious, I haven't heard any negatives yet. And there is some basic animation in it.

  • It's done. And that's actual footage somewhat. The animation is rather limited, the movie has been done since 2003!

  • the mewing near the end... Cats of Ulthar?

  • Yep....Cats of Ulthar. That's what I would think anyhow.

  • I really want to see this.

  • If you want to see it go and buy it you cheap stingy prick. This is not a Hollywood block buster, don't shaft the small guy! Support independent film.

  • Actually, I would like a link too. I'd happily buy this film, but since I live in Argentina, there's no chance on that happening.

Please consider us Lovecraft fans from around the world.

  • Yes exactly. I'll read something like Dream-Quest or Mountains of Madness over and over, and each time, I'll learn something new or see something a different way.

  • "I interpreted it to mean that he took the form of someone not so much non-threatening but more akin to Hermes from Greek myth."

I suppose that is another way of interpreting it. Funny thing about Lovecraft -- he can describe so much yet also leave so much to the imagination. 8)

  • Ah, I remember that now. I interpreted it to mean that he took the form of someone not so much non-threatening but more akin to Hermes from Greek myth.

Both of course, are messengers of a sort that enjoy the offerings of the mortal world whom they stride through.

  • So, definitely, Nyarlathotep was non-sexed in the text, and er, the youthful description didn't seem too far off.

"His speech at the end seemed anything from non-threatening though."

Yep, and Kate plays that well, I must add.

(sorry about the multiple postings -- apparently there's a character limit on postings now. Weird.)

  • "Then down the wide lane betwixt the two columns a lone figure strode; a tall, slim figure with the young face of an antique Pharaoh, gay with prismatic robes and crowned with a golden pshent that glowed with inherent light. ... strode that regal figure; whose proud carriage and smart features had in them the fascination of a dark god or fallen archangel, and around whose eyes there lurked the languid sparkle of capricious humour. It spoke, and in its mellow tones..."

  • "An unassuming youth? I don't remember that from the story."

Well, it's been a while since I read the story, but that's my own phrasing. The actual text reads:

  • An unassuming youth? I don't remember that from the story. His speech at the end seemed anything from non-threatening though.

  • "Why is Nyarlathotep voiced by a chick?"

Why shouldn't it be? It can take any of a thousand different forms, after all.

But specifically, I picked a female voice because in the story, Nyarlathotep appears as an unassuming youth, very non-threatening. I wanted a voice that was soft, but still held a bit of danger and madness to it. In the trailer, Nyarlathotep is voiced by our Producer, but its voice in the actual movie is a different actress.

  • "this has to have been one of the first videos on youtube."

It's been up a few years, yep.

There seems to be some sort of issue with the file -- so if it's still not working in a while, I may have to upload it again.
