Here are three of the best early recordings by Jackie Wilson when he was singing lead with Billy Ward & His Dominoes. "You Can't Keep a Good Man Down" was popular on the R&B chart in the fall of 1953. "Give Me You" was recorded in January of 1955. A March 1954 studio session gave birth to the "St. Louis Blues." By the way, if you share my philosophy, "never grow up, never grow old," come on over to my blog, Shady Dell Music & Memories at www.shadydell.blogspot.com. See you there!

  • You're very welcome, and thank you for your comment! I wholeheartedly agree. These early Jackie Wilson recordings still sound fresh and vital today. I love his youthful exuberance, his operatic virtuosity, his use of melismas, and his superb diction. This was Jackie Wilson at his best !

  • You are so right on, Jackie was even then destined for the wonderful singer and great music Legend he was to become. This, I feel was only the beginning of a tremendous career, for a sensational Recording Artist. He is gone for so very long, but I Pray that his music will live on for the Young People of today. I hope he and his Legacy will inspire others to go on and follow in his footsteps. Jackie was at his best, and most happy on a stage performing-believe me, I know. Best, MM
