Vasana is difficult if not impossible to define and translate - none the less the following may be useful

vasana: (Sanskrit) "Subconscious inclination." From vas, "living, remaining." The subliminal inclinations and habit patterns which, as driving forces, color and motivate one's attitudes and future actions. Vasanas are the conglomerate results of subconscious impressions (samskaras) created through experience. Samskaras, experiential impressions, combine in the subconscious to form vasanas, which thereafter contribute to mental fluctuations, called vritti. The most complex and emotionally charged vasanas are found in the dimension of mind called the subsubconscious, or vasana chitta.

Patanjali's Yoga Sutras or Aphorisms on Yoga

* Patanjali was yet another Spiritual Giant who lived around the time of Christ

Patanjali Said - 5 Modulations or Movements of The Mind - which keep us from WHAT IS OR TRUTH! Or This is When Yoga is "NOT" happening

1. proven theory,
which is often assumed to have been reliably proved and therefore to constitute right knowledge; (or, rationalization of the movement of thought .)

2. wrong knowledge
unsound thinking or wrong knowledge, assumptions, presumptions, beliefs (deductions and inference may also be included here); (or verbal condemnation of the movement of thought as wrong.)

3. imagination
(fancy or hallucination or imagination totally unrelated to any proven or assumed theories, which may also include the delusion that one is already out of the movement of thought .

4. Sleep
a state of dullness or sleep; or succumbing to the movement of thought, feeling it is impossible to go beyond it;

5. Memory
memory, or the recollection of a teaching or an experience which gives rise to the notion that it is possible to go beyond the movement of thought; such a notion forms an image.
