By the way, our "pear" is what Americans call "avocado" ... sorry ... I forgot!

The word is "ackee", and it's Jamaica's national "fruit", even though it's not at all sweet. Cooked w/saltfish, usually w/tomatoes,onions, bacon,& allspice.I think this dish requires an acquired taste bcs. my American hubby & kids don'tlike it, but my JA family members LOVE IT! We eat it with JA. dumplings (HARD, not soft like American dumplings), with green bananas, and, if we're very lucky, breadfruit! Yum! Bwoy! If we have some pear & Hardo bread, all the betta! Lawd have mussy!

Aki is a Jamaican delicacy - not sure if it's a fruit or a vegetable. It has to be eaten within a narrow window of ripening or it will make you very sick. It has sort of a sour taste. It is canned and is very difficult to find outside of Jamaica. (Why would a song called Jamaica Farewell make a reference to Thai food?)

Great Cover... but the line is: "Aki, rice, Salt fish are nice... not tacky rice, salt fish are nice.. You have a good sound. I enjoyed listening.

Thanks for that.... I'll change my words. Actually, I love "sticky rice" as you get it in Thailand and I just assumed "tacky rice" was a Jamaican way of saying it. By the way, what is Aki?
