That's the way it should work, but it doesn't. Tricare also will not perform the procedure if I can't have someone waiting in the waiting room. I may end up hiring someone to sit in the hospital for me.

The driver just has to show up to sign a form that s/he will be driving you back at the end of the procedure. Once you get taken back for the procedure, the driver can disappear and when you wake up, you just call the driver to come get you.

The VA wants to perform a colonoscopy on me, but wants my driver to spend the afternoon at the hospital with me. The concern being that he would not come to pick me up with I was ready. My driver can't do that so as a result, the VA will not perform the colonoscopy.

I have had 6 of these procedures following colon cancer followup, and all of them were very uncomfortable, but you can stand it. The biggest thing you need to remember during this procedure is to remain as still as possible.

That scope the surgeon is using looks a LOT bigger than the one they show to ease our minds.
