Fast bouncing around.

This is a run of Sonic the Hedgehog where no zipping mechanism is abused. It's by no means a glitchless run, mainly because defining what is a glitch and what is not a glitch isn't really trivial. By choosing to not use zipping it means (as defined by me) that what's not allowed to do is gaining a big speed boost (16-32 pixels per frame) from being inside terrains. Something which might seem similar to zipping and is allowed is terrain-ejection and sprite-ejection where the character doesn't gain any speed but instead gets directly shifted to a certain position.

This is a Tool Assisted Video. See tasvideos.org for details.

  • The download links are still corrupted...

  • @Charmolution I replaced them around 23 hours after original publication. Did you redownload the torrent?

  • @OmnipotentEntity

The 111 MB one or the 116 MB?

  • @Charmolution Both, they both had audio issues. You should know that if you downloaded the 10bit444 video that you need an SVN version of FFMPEG or mplayer2 or vlc to play it, if you don't have it you can't decode it.

  • Thanks for making a Sonic run I can actually enjoy.

  • @xnamkcor Not my doing, thank Aglar. I just publish them. :)

  • @variousthings I agree, in as much that watching non-TAS is great fun and an enormous feat in itself, but TAS and non-TAS are very different beasts, both in their creation and appreciation.

I'm no trying to belittle you, just emphasise the difference between the two types of speedrun for anyone reading this; I'd recommend speeddemosarchive . com as a good site for non-TAS runs, or even here on youtube; go watch some runs and let your interest flourish!

  • More people should make speedruns that avoid major scrolling bugs and other level-skipping engine exploits. Sure, it can be fascinating to watch how far the game engine and level designs can be pushed before they break - but the speedruns that I find most spectacular and fun to watch are those that work within the limits of the level paths and game mechanics that the developers intended and every player is familiar with.

  • What the fuck...

    THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!

    Nice one! =)

  • man, I love the fact that on most level, you actually spend more time getting the time bonus than playing the level itself ;)

  • 1:51 best jump ever ;)

  • LOVE the logo :)

  • I really hope you do Sonic 2 and 3 like this. It shows off the game way more than the super cheating Sonic TAS's. I mean those ones totally miss the point of watching the TAS. It's like when that one Castlevania TASer finally did a 200.12% Castlevania SOTN TAS and it was just him flying up and down outside the castle in the same spot for 40 minutes. He completely missed the reason why people asked him to do that TAS for two years, and was such a disappointment. This one is awesome to watch.

  • @OmnipotentEntity

I playing both on VLC, neither worked.
