CES 2010: MyFord Touch / SYNC is a PC on Wheels

Its a brave new car, with digital screens on the dashboard and around the speedometer, plus LCD mood lighting and twitter integration.

Ford introduced its updated SYNC interface, showing off a completely customizable dashboard, along with an open API that will allow other internet applications to easily plug into its upcoming lineup.


They also showed off web applications streaming to the new Taurus SHO, including Pandora radio, Stitcher, and even twitter twitter integration will include a text to speech converter imagine listening to tweets while you drive. All this, sent to the car via your iPhone, Droid or other Google Phone, or Blackberry. Radio is so dead.

touch screens in cars are a very bad idea, if you can't feel the buttons you need to take your spherical light collectors off the road to see what your doing.

I understand most of your concerns about safety, but I watched a different / better video that explains that this actually makes it so you don't take your eyes off the road as much as you did before. Instead of having all the controls you need way down on the bottom console, they are now on the dash where you can see/use them at a glance. You are not supposed to use the touch screen while driving the vehicle just like any navigation system.....

( I hope car and truck companies can make a car or truck run 100k miles with no problems( first ). too many ford truck transmision going at about 50 k.

( then add all this electronic stuff if people want it ) I want a car or truck that lasts 100k miles . with out having to put a 1500 dollar tramision . ( produce a quality product engine and transmision ) this is what transportation is for going from one place to another. It is sad to have to rent a car to get to work .

I wonder if SYNC will cause so many accidents that they'll ban it in certain states... I KNOW people can't handle more than looking @ their Speed let alone riding around and navigating menus etc... o.0
