  • ugh! nobody has the version i want!

  • If it's a spiritual song does it really matter the color of the person singing it? No where in the Bible does it say that only certain races are allowed to sing praises to Him.

  • i am wainting of r the real reason for this song... this reason is to let the sclaves knwo where they are ..and i know how to sing ti

  • ITS A NEGRO SPIRITUAL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD ! lol

  • @99Sorc I would like to know the verse that you speak of, because I am not finding it. You sure you're reading the Bible?

  • @firegoddess662332 well actually it does talk about how brown men and long hair are beings of filth and immodesty. but most of u fools dont know shit about the book u praise so much.

  • @KaiStarkk As far as I've been told, this song is about slaves wading in the water as they tried to escape so they could throw dogs off their scent. But, I guess what you say it's about does make alot of sense. Then again, this is quite an old song and no one can really know where it came from, can they? I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree ^_^

Anyways, sorry if I sounded rude, but I guess we were both refering to different meaning of the song. Misunderstandings suck :P

  • To those white or black who don't know "Black" history, this song comes out of the slavery experience as code for escape via underground railroad or other escape passages. Though some of the code has been lost with time these songs R specifically coded escape messages with biblical reference only to fool slave masters. Other such songs include Follow the Drinking Gourd and Steal Away.

  • @RockPwnsYou Don't get me wrong the guy you were replying to was an idiot.

But this song isn't about 'slavery'. It's about the specific event (fictional or otherwise) of Moses crossing the red sea. I was commenting in general about all the people saying that white people shouldn't sing this song, because the blacks were both the slaves and the slavedrivers here :D

you had nothing to feel terrible about imo
