I would like to be able to tell you that i went around on New Years Eve and took all these wonderful videos of Hobartians celebrating, watching Fireworks, seeing the New Year in and partying...but unfortunately i was working New Years Eve and into 2010 so i was unable to take any videos...but i did take this video on New Years Eve about midday and i especially requested the Bagpiper to play Aulde Lang Syne for me...i dont know what his name is...i forgot to ask......but the song has become associated with New Years Eve more than any other song......
"Auld Lang Syne" is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song (Roud # 6294). It is well known in many English-speaking (and other) countries and is often sung to celebrate the start of the New Year at the stroke of midnight. By extension, its use has also become common at funerals, graduations, and as a farewell or ending to other occasions.
Singing the song on New Year's Eve very quickly became a Scots custom that soon spread to other parts of the British Isles. As Scots (and other Britons) emigrated around the world, they took the song with them.
Canadian band leader Guy Lombardo is often credited with popularising the use of the song at New Years celebrations in America, through his annual broadcasts on radio and television, beginning in 1929. The song became his trademark. In addition to his live broadcasts, Lombardo recorded the song more than once. His first recording was in 1939. A later recording on September 29, 1947 was issued as a single by Decca Records ....
The song's Scots title may be translated into English literally as "old long since", or more idiomatically, "long long ago" or "days gone by".Matthew Fitt uses the phrase "In the days of auld lang syne" as the equivalent of "Once upon a time..." in his retelling of fairy tales in the Scots language.
Lyrics to Aulde Lang Syne
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
There are more verses but we tend to keep singing the same ones over and over again depending on how drunk we are at the time...LOL

It's interesting to see it sunny and green around New Years Eve. Where I live, it is winter during New Years Eve.

Tasmania is not like the rest of Australia...a lot of people coming down to Tasmania from other Australian states...cant get over how green tassie is...whereas most of Australia would be brown and parched...tassie is nice and green even in summer....we do have droughts of course and water restricions at times...but nothing as bad as other parts of Australia....

I forgot about that. Also, from what I have heard, an El nino can really dry out central Australia.
