Shoshanah Dubiner challenges herself to spontaneously paint a very large image of Kwan Yin, the Buddhist Bodhisattva of Compassion, as a performance piece for a fundraiser of San Francisco Insight Meditation Community, a Buddhist sangha. She uses Chinese brushes and sumi ink on blank watercolor paper 4 feet wide and 6 feet high, with no preparatory sketches on the paper. The image was inspired by a famous Chinese wood carving of a seated Kwan Yin from Shanxi Province (A.D. 907-1125). Musical accompaniment by kirtan singer Sita Jamieson. The painting is completed in 5 minutes.
