Breath of Fire II - Low Level Game - Part IV: Joker

Here's a surprisingly easy boss. This funny looking guy has less HP than Augus, however, we now have Nina, an offensive magic user on our side!

The boss is supposedly weak to ice, so the best way of dealing damage to him is exploiting that Achilles heel and casting Cold with Nina.

From this point and onwards, bosses' defences increase, meaning that our low level party's physical attacks will be lame. Both Katt and Ryu are unable to keep up with Nina in terms of damage potential during this battle, and since Ryu is the weakest character, his main priority is to heal.

I didn't bother taking store bought equipment for Nina (which I could have conveniently equipped during the battle), so she needs to be healed quite often. When Joker hits her with one of the nasty full-party moves, she is near critical. Fortunately, healing is not too hard because the boss's turn comes after the entire party.

I also took that mail that drastically lowers Ryu's speed. This was done for two reasons. First of all, his attacks phail, therefore healing is his purpose.

Secondly and most importantly, Katt is once again the survivor, meaning everyone should die off as quickly as possible.

(use a calculator to count down his HP, THEN go solo)

Katt, however, needs the best armour available and this allows her to survive the nastiest of boss's attacks surprisingly easily. She could've just gone solo in this battle (if she had the magic of Nina).

It's a low level game, meaning you can only allow yourself to have ONE character alive at the end of each battle, so that you don't get too many levels up. It's tougher to pull off than it looks.

It happened right before the video started, but the fight with the 4 Hoods can be really annoying. When one goes down, there's a good chance another one will come back him up, which leads to more experience gain. You can try your luck by reviving Ryu, whittling down their HP and trying to kill them all within 2-3 rounds (and kill Ryu at the same time), but there's no guarantee a backup won't come. The best way by far: use the Firerock. It saves the LifePL you would have had to use on Ryu too.
