@vacuumlover1 have you ever thought that that was what dolphy wanted? he wanted a different kind of sound, so he found the best mouthpiece for his new feel? or that the squeks are wanted?
-
@gjbsaxman94 Not really.. Eric Dolphy used 10 different mouthpieces and he sounded different on each one. If one was too close you could tell. If he had a really wide open mouthpiece you could tell. Closer mouthpieces usually start making squeaks(different voicings) that you do not want, Like in this video he starts making high voicings that i bet he didn't want to make.

@vacuumlover1 mouthpieces only matter that much when you aren't very good, but once you reach a certain level, the only reason to change mouthpieces is to find one that is the most comfortable for you own mouth/style. if you listen to any great player, they will sound almost exactly the same on any mouthpiece.

Great instrument, would get one as a hobby but fuck at the cost.

@vacuumlover1 that's a lot of mouthpieces.... :O

@masterspreder I have 5 mouthpieces 2 of them have been refaced to my liking. The ones that have been refaced sound Amazing, open, flexible, no restraint. I can hear that with this mouthpiece you are using is not letting you have that characteristic bass clarinet sound. I highly HIGHLY recommend vandoren reeds and SELMER Mouthpieces. I have A refaced Selmer C Star And HS Star for my bass and Bb clarinet and they play wonderful! the reeds really help too! hope all this informs and helps! -nath

@masterspreder Im sorry but the facts are its 50% Mouthpiece 30% reed and 20% ligature. Equipment makes a HUGE difference. I've been playing bass clarinet since 6th grade and Regular Bb clarinet since i was 5. My bass clarinet teacher has showed me some useful tips in the past 8 years and one of them is BUY A GOOD MOUTHPIECE AND REED! The ligature isn't as important but it is still a good idea to spent at least 70 dollars on one!

This was so good it got me high.
where did you but yours? Im looking for a selmer but you are making that yamaha sound pretty good. Im looking for a new bass anywhere below $700

@AlexThing64 Hello there. In the initiation models, the biggest diference between the yamaha, selmer, jupiter or other brands, is the intonation and the key sistem. The key sistem of the yamaha is very very good and offers a great playability. Basically, the yamaha key sistem let your fingers fly.. The sound is a complex question. 80% of your tone is produced by your mouth, 10% by your mouthpiece and 10% by your instrument. (in my opinion)

This is really cool, obviosly i play bass clarinet... i love jazz on bass clarinet. i also do the piano and the keyboard.
i have a question, What is a good quality reeed to play on. i play on a ricco royal 4 and the notes in the higher range are easyer for me to produce, but the lower notes use up alot of my air supply, and i am not sure how to resolve this problem.... any suggestions??

Hello. In the beginning I also play with strong reeds. But if you want play easily, you have to use weaker reeds. In this moment I play with Vandoren 3 #. Try to stude subtone and harmonics. You have to play lots of low notes. They help you to understand better your instrument. Stude the low notes. Improve your tone and after that you have better sources to now how play the high notes. Cheers. Gastão Silva
