What facinates me about older lifts is just how simple they are once you understand them better.

Harri will soon be posting a video of a place in London we visited...this too is an old Express Lifts installation. Relays are easy to read as you can see them going on and off. Each has a purpose, and when you understand them more, with the help of my Express Lifts relay book - thank's RizzBriff :), then you can begin to work out how controllers started out. Like, how the heck do you make a lift do what it does, apply some call answering logic, BEFORE microprocessors were around? I find this stuff facinating, and especially so as relays are in my blood, or so to speak :D

Ok time for me to stop going on and on about lifts and for you to watch this vid!

Oh yeah...
Listen to the Simply Red song called "Mellow my mind". Now that's definiately a lift motor slowing down then the classic sound of an Express Lift relay controller and brake releasing (isn't it?!!)

  • I know these lifts well.. Warrington yes?

Not sure if it's been corrected now but you could actually see into the shafts of these lifts - just seperate the doors with your hands the instant they shut and they would open up about 6 inches to see into the shaft

  • @cakebandit0o Yes you're right. Interesting, I'll try that next time I'm there

  • Wow, only you could find a great view for inside the shaft! :D LOVE old lifts like this, and that floor reader is much bigger than the added on one at redbridge, was this the origional model express used at 4:00 and great to know the inside floor indicator lights are working! Be careful with putting your camera in there!

  • is there any electric sheme for an elevator controller of any type with simple relays and contactors?
