The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine protects against 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts. The vaccine consists of three doses taken over six months, and is provided to girls aged 12 to 13 as part of the school-based immunisation program.
The vaccine is most effective at this age, before sexual activity starts and when girls are able to create more antibodies.
