Watch for the gay and lesbian in this Pre-Code scene. LOL

David Manners, the actor who is singing here, was gay and was forced to retired in 1936 because he didn't want to marry for the sake of the sexual conformity. The Hollywood studios demanded this because of the rising tide of conservatism and the revival of religion that swept the United States around 1934-1935 which marked the death of liberalism and secularism until the late 1960's.
