  • the voice sounds too processed- the immediacy is gone. that's what's so lovely about cranking up the old victrola- it has PRESENCE- just like these singers had in their day.

  • I've just posted the original of this rendition from 1912 if you're interested.

  • Fantastico!!!

  • @zciweslab That's where you're wrong; his voice is NOT processed; this is how it pretty much sounds on the record; it's not at all matched to the orchestra.

The orchestra is playing in a large hall while Caruso recorded this in a cramped room.

If Caruso's voice was processed to match the soundstage of the orchestra, it would sound overall way more natural and indeed, they did figure this out on the subsequent CD.

  • There is a digital process to REMOVE the sound of the recording horn, recreating the full sound of Caruso himself. So the voice would not be lo-fidelity as this is. Too bad this process wasn't used for this. Nice idea, just an odd result.

  • nor pavarotti could against him.... nor in notes and beauty vibratos

  • Although it's quite clever how they do this (well, I guess it isn't really, come to think of it) I really can't understand why people have to screw around with these classic recordings. It's maybe me being picky, but I just wish they'd leave things alone sometimes. Just a personal opinion.

  • the music is a huge improvement..beautifull in fact but lanza owns ladanza
