Crazy Chris is checking out cells and shows you how to make a animal cell model using candy!

Objective: To understand the basic unit of life is a cell, the cell organells as well as thier functions

Materials Needed:
- Plastic Bag
- Corn Syrup
- Assorted Candy

Step 1) Cut a fruit square in half and sprinkle some sprinkles on both sides of one half. Fold this up back and forth. Attach a gum ball to one end of the fruite square.

Step 2) Fold up the other half the same way as well as another full full fruit square. Place all your fruit squares intothe bag.

Step 3) Cut a chocolate cylindar in half and toss that into the bag too.

Step 4) Place 5 jelly beans and 6 lemon candies in the bag as well.

Step 5) Fill the bag with corn syrup untill its almost all the way full. Then zip the bag up to close it off.

How It Works:
The candy represents the different parts of the cell. Such as the gum ball represents the nuclueus or control center of the cell that holds the DNA. The folded up fruit square with sprinkles acts like the rough endoplasmic recticulum with ribosomes, which construct protines. The full folded up fruit square acts like a golgi body which is the packing and shipping center of the cell. Lysosomes which are the digestion, garbage and recycling centers. The jelly beans represent mitochondria which are the power plant of the cell buring protines through chemical reactions. The halfed fruit square without sprinkles acts like the smooth endoplasmic reticulum which acts like th detox center for the cell. The chocoalte cylindars act like the centrioles which help the cell reproduce. They all float around in the corn syrup wihch acts like the cytoplasm in the cell which is made up of a water, nutriants and minerals.
