The only way to truely understand the novel Lolita is to read it in its entirety. I did for a college class and loved Nobokovs writing style very much. It is a difficult read though due to sophisticated language.

Yes! Finally someone who sees it as a good love story - not Pedophile! :D Great Vid :D

the movie makes it seem far more romantic than the book, sadly i watched the movie first and so it kinda stuck in my head as a love story. but the book is slightly arker and i do think its a great cntrast between the two :)

Yes Lolita did string him along. That's still no excuse for an adult to molest a minor. Pedophiles would constantly tell the police or families "but she was asking for it", which is pretty disgusting. I don't think you're intentionally supporting pedophilia, but I don't want anyone to think that Vladimir Nabokov was trying to write a love story. Because he actually stated that Lolita was a dark novel about a corrupt man who tried to charm his readers to sympathize with him.

@coralin378 Okay I will admit that he was very obsessive,
but I believe that he also truly loved her. And of course he
took advantage of her, that much is obvious, but she was
not innocent either. She was constantly stringing him along,
and I believe she took advantage of him as well. And my
relationships are just fine, thank you.

You missed the point of the story. If you really think this was a love story then I don't want to know what your relationships are like.
I suppose the movie kind of made it more "romantic" than how it really was. In the book Lolita cried constantly and got angry whenever Humbert tried to touch her. It's rape, except it's even worse because Humbert was supposed to be a father to Dolores and he ended up taking advantage of her.

@netcharm NOT TRUE AT ALL!! He loved her more than she loved him!
It is a love story.
-
@coralin378 first off he did not rape her, and it was definitely a love story.
Not twisted at all, a bit strange perhaps. I do agree it is poetry though

Uh... WHY is that a good thing? CREEPY!!

In my Spanish I class, one of the examples in the book included a girl named Lolita. Everybody but the teacher, seeing as she was from Colombia and apparently had several friends with that name, flipped out. It was so sad to see so many people blind to a great literary work simply because of the subject matter.

at first I had only read the book and felt a bit...disgusted at first, but after I saw the trailer of this movie I fell in love with Jeremy Irons, so I totally changed my opinion.
I was about 13 when I had this terrible crush on my music teacher, and we were quite close ( I mean we were going out - of course, "under cover"- to see movies, I went to his house... It was great, but he didn`t stay for more than one year, so nothing "big" happened. Sometimes, I really miss him.
love it so much i'm favoring it.
