  • he looks like a sweet potato... he should work in MacDonald in china.... i wasted my time watching.

  • @shijunli

The rubber also could be a reason or result of those two different styles. it's chicken egg thing.

The trends of Chinese style is not fully extended arm, but still more open comparing with Euro to get the best of both.

  • @shijunli

Europe style: use a lot of wrist power, and fore arm to hit the ball to get the G, see Boll, Maze. Muzutani is Euro style, but he doesn't have that power, so his looping power is his biggest issue.

    Pros: swing frequency is high.

Cons: stability is not good if heavily depending on wrist power.

  • Loop: always driven by waist and center of mass movement, arm is just a delivery tool.

Chinese style: large radius with full arm extended or close to be extended. when touching ball, use fore arm to reduce radius, so get a big G to accelerate the ball. See Malong, Wang Liqin, Chen Qi.

Pros: Energy efficient, match with physics.

Cons: fully extended arm slowing down the swing frequency.

  • Would you say this is like 'smashing' the ball using an upper angle swing with the arm?

  • @zleepylei what you are talking about is the European style. Actually, the Chinese and Korean styles are to swing the whole arm. Guess who plays better?

  • Only the Europeans use the forearm more as this fits there European Drive. The Chinese use mostly the "big" arm to produce more forward motion and this is what Chinese loop is all about. Quick, Fast and Energy Efficient.

  • Just curious, how can you not to swing the whole arm when you are using the "big arm" more than the forearm?

It is good to meet somebody we can discuss on the table tennis skill :)

  • See Wang Liqin, Chen Qi and Ma Long. I don't mean you swing the whole arm. You took it too literally. It's just you mainly use the big arm more than the forearm. This is from an article on Chinese table. Search it.

  • Its not true, when doing a forehand drive we should never swing the whole arm, otherwise you would easily lose control on the ball.
