Question 2, from jubei455
"comissions question what do I need to add in a commision how many pages ,characters, covers, comic pages ect and is it okay to pencil your work then copy it off and ink the copy work so you can have a penciled and ink page for comissions"

----------------------------------------------------------------

SEQUENTIAL ART PORTOLIO GUIDELINES:
a. No more than 10 pages total.
b. No more than 1 pinup / splash page (most likely a cover for the sequential work) the rest sequential

A PERFECT SEQUENTIAL ART PORTFOLIO SHOULD CONTAIN:
(include as many of these as you can, these are NOT listed in order of priority)
1. Good sequential storytelling
2. Draw powerful Heroes and villains
3. Draw regular people (showing the difference between regular and super hero characters)
4. Inter-personal relationships
5. Big action
6. Nature settings
7. Animals
8. City Buildings City Scapes
9. Crowds of people (showing a wide variety of body shapes, face shapes etc)
10. High Tech stuff (Kirby type tech devises, etc)
11. Conventional technology (Cars, Plaines, etc)

----------------------------------------------------------------

FREDDIE E WILLIAMS II SAMPLE PLOT:
(for a comic book portfolio)
Feel Free to compress or decompress the pacing

Page One: A grandfather and his grandchild at a Zoo looking at some animals, they are sharing a special moment, then at the bottom of the page Superman crashes into the ground hurt, creating a crater.

Page Two:
Superman gets to his feet, and turns to see Kalibak (from Apokolips) and some of his minions (riding tech chariots with ray guns) Note: The grandfather and kid, along with other background people are fleeing in the background. Superman Flys into the air, with the bad guys in pursuit, and they fly over the city.

The next few pages after that:
Superman uses his eye beams to shoot down one of the chariots, and it spins off into a building. Superman fights another sled and it screeches towards a sidewalk cafe, and will hurt a bunch of people, so Superman catches the sled, then a blinding light appears as a Boom Tube portal door opens

Last Page: and we see Darkseid emerging from the Boom Tube, looking all cool with Kalibak hovering behind him.
End on a close up of an intense looking Superman.

    :)

  • what's splash art?

  • Splash art: Usually a single image occupying the entire page - similar to a cover.

Editor's are sometimes put off by a portfolio containing multiple covers and splash pages, as it may indicate the artist does not have much sequential art experience, which is a big red flag.

    Thank you for your question

  • OMG a real life Comic book Guy from The Simpsons!

  • Hi. I'm doing a comic and got to the point where i want to do a 2 page spread for a major epic shot. How many pages do I actually use. One normal size page and just use it horizontaly, landscape way. Or do I use 2 full pages, linked them and draw with a gap in the middle?

  • Thankyou. I am glad you put these videos up. I am trying to create a comic series that will be going online once I have drawn some of the story line. :) The only problem is, I don't know crap about photoshop, my work with drawing with my bamboo pen and touch is awkward, and most of my storyline is in my head. So THANKS. :)

  • very helpful

  • I have created a Master Template in Photoshop using the instructions in your book. How would you modify this Master Template, perhaps to create an entirely new one for this purpose, to create a two page spread that would still print to the 11x17? Would you cut the boards, scan them in and then create it from there? Or merge copies of the master together in Photoshop? Thanks for your time and the book I have really learned a lot from it and your videos. Thanks.
