The California Medical Association thanks Congress for voting to block the 25-percent Medicare cuts scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, but needs congressional leaders and the president to now follow up with a long-term solution to stabilize the program's funding once and for all.

It's crucial that we roll up our sleeves and work with Congress to fix the problem for good by eliminating the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula and replacing it with stable, rational funding seniors and doctors can count on. CMA looks forward to working with congressional leaders on crafting such a solution.

Physicians participating in Medicare remain extremely concerned about the future of the program and their ability to treat their elderly patients. This one-year reprieve will mean nothing if Congress does not take seriously the president's call for a permanent solution.

  • shame on our godamn Republicans!

  • @ConsDemo

"What about the rest of us?"

What do you really know about healthcare in America? You should have asked yourself this before posting a comment on a video of trained physicians, whose target audience actually cares enough to do a tiny bit a research.

  • @ConsDemo You obviously didn't get the point. Go back and view it again and listen this time. Physicians may be better paid than most in the world, but the money they get has to go to pay for all of the overhead, malpractice and costs of doing business that ultimately lead to low reimbursement. Why is it that all of the training, education, responsibility, and time that physicians put into taking care of people like you go unrecognized by the very person that complains about their care?

  • Here we go again, doctors claiming the sky will fall if they don't continue to get the generous payment rates in the world. Do these doctors care that Medicare is going to bankrupt this country if it is left on auto-pilot. What about the rest of us? American doctors are the best paid in the world and other countries provide better care. End overpayments to doctors!
