On a balmy Californian evening of a late sixties summer, a group of kids rode their 20-inch Schwinn Stingray bicycles to a park in Los Angeles where they were fond of riding the dirt trails. Like kids anywhere the world over, they wanted to race each other. So they had their race right there among the dust, bumps and jumps of an LA park.
And so the sport of BMX racing was born.
39 years later BMX racing made its Olympic debut in Beijing, China. From its roots in the dirt of an LA park in the sixties, to its debut at the Olympics in 2008, this is the story of that journey, the story of BMX Supercross.
