the beeper means there is a emergency situation going on, and to keep the air clear for those units only

Thanks for Posting. Nice & clear upload. Over in NYC the NYPD uses a tone just at the beginning of an in progress high threats transmission, specially when a On or Off duty law enforcement is in distress. Typically if it's coming in over 911 or another channel or agency then it's transmitted over with the rapid tone to get officers attention.

I remember being a kid watching the show cops and hearing that tone whenever the show was out on the west coast. For years i wondered what it was for. Last year i went to vegas and brought my scanner along. Sure enough there was that tone again and after listening for a while i finally figured out what it was for. I'm from CT and never heard that type of tone out here. Not even NYC or Boston. They do have tones but they're not used the same way. Must be a west coast thing?

the county i live in in Oregon has emergency tones that go out at the beginning of any call involving weapons. they don't do the tones throughout.
