  • here are the original lyrics. it is about Christ. Jesus is The Light of the world:

    Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,

    Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;

    But of all Thy rich graces this grace, Lord, impart

    Take the veil from our faces, the vile from our heart.

    All laud we would render; O help us to see

    ’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee,

    And so let Thy glory, Almighty, impart,

    Through Christ in His story, Thy Christ to the heart.

    These are the last two stanzas

  • Praise God Almighty!

  • " in your light we see light.

    (Psalm 36:9) Granddaddy taught me to be aware of the Shekinah Light by which G-d enlightens our ways. His Light is the Sanskrit vidya which is the sensitivity of all our senses. I would like this sung at my funeral.

  • This - a favourite of my mother's - was sung at her funeral last month.

    At about 16, I began to learn about how stars worked; and in later lfe, I tried to tell her a little of the little I had learned. We were both astonished by the elegant, simple Victorian perception of the final two lines of this hymn:

    "All laud we would render, oh help us to see

    T'is only the splendour of light hideth Thee"

    You don't see the light, you see via the light. You cannot see God because He is the light.

  • To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;

    In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;

    We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,

    And wither and perish—but naught changeth Thee.
