This video chronicles a high altitude weather balloon launch, a project done by my AP Physics students at Richardson High School. The balloon was launched on November 11, 2011 with an expected ceiling of 90,000 feet. Approximately one hour and 34 minutes following launch, the balloon burst, spiraling downward toward earth. Unfortunately, the GPS-enabled phone stopped transmitting signals and we lost tracking of the balloon. The balloon was located 8 days later by Jack Patrick and his son, Carter, who were deer hunting on their property in Wood County, approximately 80 miles east of Dallas.
