  • Were you votebotted or do religious zealots just hate you?

    :D

  • got votebotted twice, for a grand total of 12,000 one star ratings.

    About two months ago maybe.

  • not debating anything here, just wanted to let you know that you do bring up some very good points in this video and you did a very good job in a small amount of time. although i did disagree with some minor comments, over all very well done. do you mind if i use u as a source for a paper?

  • Hey, thanks! I'd be honoured.

  • PART 1

As I said hairyreasoner we DO have different concepts.

A cult to me has to have the following:

    1. A leader who obsessively seeks power and control and to be worshipped and empowered more so than anyone else, including their God, if they believe in one.

    2. A leader (or leaders) who is psychotic, a liar, paranoic, a manipulator, an abuser of his followers, who strongly believes that the end justifies the means.

  • As for psychotic liars who abuse their members, look no further than Benny Hinn.

  • RELIGION=ALIEN INTERVENTIONS !

  • Just because it is a mainstream religion does not mean it cannot be being a cult.

I agree with you: Benny Hinn is to me a low spectrum "culter" if I compare him to Charles Manson. Many evangelicals and independent Christian ministers are to me low to mid spectrum "culters".

Mother Theresa, if she had a Church, I, even though I don't believe in religions, would have become a member.

This has been a great and evolving to me discussion and well done to all of you for your wise views.

  • All of those things can be found in mainstream religion.

Take a member of the Taliban, they try to entrap women by making rules that force people to become blind fanatics figuratively as well as literally (vision is not so great through a burqa.)

As for Christianity, there are many examples of leaders of sects who are obsessive about gaining power... Ted Haggard etc.

  • Edit: Jonestown, Branch Davidian, and the Manson Family are a few examples.

  • Agreed! Tolerate is a better word.

Cults are generally tolerated because they are seen as a benign spinoff of mainstream religions. That is until they do something stupid like they always do. Jamestown, Branch Davidians, and the Manson Family are a few examples.

I agree! All religions/cults have the same fundamental beliefs. "How you live on earth determines your next/after life." But when the beliefs promote sinister behavior then it is no longer a religion.
