Don Miller -- author of "Blue Like Jazz" and "Searching For God Knows What" writes,

"I think it is more safe and more beautiful and more true to believe that when a person dies he will go and be with God because, on earth, he had come to know Him, that he had a relational encounter with God not unlike meeting a friend or a lover or having a father or taking a bride, and that in order to engage God he gave up everything, repented and changed his life..." (p156, Searching For God Knows What) "The message is that ... if they ask forgiveness ... then God will forgive them. (p124, Blue Like Jazz) ... all ... he really needed to do was place all his love and faith in Christ... the early message of grace [was] of repentance toward dead works and immorality in exchange for a loving relationship with Christ." (p121, 190, Searching For God Knows What)

This is clearly salvation by works.

And when you believe salvation by works, you can never be sure if you've "done enough" to be saved. Thus, notice how uncertain Don Miller is...

"At the end of the day, ... I am lying in bed and I know the chances of any of our theology being exactly right are a million to one... (p206, Blue Like Jazz) Lately I have been thinking about the verse in Scripture that says to work out your salvation in fear and trembling (see Phil. 2:12). I take this to mean salvation isn't something you go around feeling sure of..." (p204, Searching For God Knows What)

  • Just a question.. Did you read the book? Donald Miller definitely doesn't portray an overall theme in this book that a person's individual actions are what bring him or her salvation. In fact, he paints the picture of a relational dynamic with christ being the only way. Pick the book back up, I think you might get a better understanding..

  • You are obviously a Calvinist.

  • Hey man, I love you. Just thought I'd let you know. However, I disagree with this entire video. Thinking outside the box is all Jesus ever did. You should try it sometime. :)

  • Don is not writing about what is true, he is writing about what he and many of us wish would be true, IF WE ARE BEING HONEST

  • You are just... So ignorant.

  • Donald Miller is just a man working on loving God. Stop looking at his theology because is is not unlike the bible and look at yourself, how you are making up unsaid words.. and for what?

    Praying for you

  • Don't mistake the effect for the cause. We are not saved by repentance, we are saved, first and foremost by Jesus Christ. Repentance, change, and anything else that follows Salvation is merely the effect. Check out My Utmost for His Highest. Great Devo

  • you are a hack!

  • Dude, you're wack. Haha. You completely misread and pieced together lots of random words

  • Way to take one passage completely out of the context of the whole book and then proceed to rip it apart. Good job... You accomplished so much. And I'm sure you understood Miller's whole point from one sentence in his book.
