History will be made on Sydney Harbour early on Tuesday 22 February 2011 as two of Cunard Line's magnificent liners -- Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary 2 -- arrive together in a spectacular Royal Rendezvous on Sydney Harbour.

The two liners will meet off Sydney Heads shortly before 5.30am on Feb 22. Queen Mary will then lead her younger sister into the Harbour -- the first time two Cunard liners have ever arrived in Sydney in tandem.

On her way to Garden Island, Queen Mary 2 will round Fort Denison, sounding her whistle as she passes Queen Elizabeth, which will be sailing towards her Circular Quay berth.

Both ships will spend the night in Sydney Harbour with Queen Elizabeth set to farewell her larger sister with a whistle salute at midday on Feb 23 as she sails past her bound for Melbourne. Be there to watch Cunard history in the making.

  • @ChristopherA26 She has 2 horns, the one sounding like a fart after curry the night before is from the original Queen Mary, the deeper one is her own horn. They usually blow them together, but they can be sounded seperately.

  • @ChristopherA26 The QM2's horns are from the original RMS Queen Mary, hence the difference in tone.

  • It's MS Queen Elizabeth, not RMS. Sorry to be pedantic.

  • Too much superstructure. It reminds me of new Santa Barbara vs 1920's spanish style SB: When structures get beyond a certain size, the scale changes and so must the proportions--modern SB is huge white boxes with a fringe of red tiles along the upper edge, nothing nearly so nice as the buildings of yore. The new queens are the same, they should have changed the design of the ships such that they looked more like a ship and less like a hull with a box on top.

  • Am I the only one who has noticed the difference in pitch in QM2's horns ?

  • I like both ships.
