When you hear interviews with the original Sabbath members they all (with the possible exception or Ward) feel they were the first to contribute to that dark riff. Ozzy says he came up with idea for scary music seeing a movie theater line, Geezer says he was playing Holst, and Iommi accidentally stumbled on the riff. Could there be any better proof that a band is often greater than the sum of its parts? It must have been a rare magic for this to have happened.

When I first heard the song "Black Sabbath" in 1976 I was 8 yrs old and I remember thinking "I can't let my parents know I'm listening to this"
THAT is one of the things that makes them the best metal band EVER
And STILL scaring parents now as they have been for the last 40 years
You gotta love that :)
