POWER GEYSER!!
-
dO people drink the water here?
-
I just wanted to say this is excellent video footage. thank you for sharing...
-
Carbonated water? So it's like if you shake up a bottle of soda and then pop off the lid... I'll have to find out where this place is and go see it.

This geyser is COLD......it has nothing to do with volcanism. Not like the geysers in yellowstone at all! Just the evolution of underground carbon dioxide in a water-bearing limestone layer......The pressure of the C02 gradually builds up under the column of water in the borehole (yes BOREHOLE!)..... when it can take it no longer, it starts to erupt. This is one of about 7 Abandoned wells in the world that erupt periodically like this. The tall thing is well-casing! (whale-casing?)

uhhh no geyser water is not radioactive. Its very hot at the boiling point due to a chamber of water in a vent below the geyser is being heated by magma and is being pushed upwards by pressure. If you think its radioactive, use a Geiger counter and show me proof. Because I dont feel any mutant side effects after going through Norris, Upper and Biscuit Geyser Basin :P, LOL whales living underground WIN

The water from a geyser is radioactive - it is dangerous.

Nice timing! I think it only spurts that high about once every 16 hours or so. P.S. if you put your ear real tight to the ground, you can hear the subterrainean whale song!

what I think is a strange stick in the water I think someone put there?

I just saw this a few days ago w/ my geo class. So awesome.
I've been there before many times. Someone welded a pipe on it to help keep people from throwing debris down it. Do you go see New Area 51 near the Gyser. In the 70's they launched missles from there to White Sands in NM. I am quite the Historian on the area. MrFlats

I just got home to (Las Vegas) from Green River. We saw the geyser errupt again (we're 2 for 3). Our batteries in the camera had to be changed as it errupted but we have some brief footage to post.
I know many of the geyser stories... pipes, dynamite, drilling, lost articles, etc.
I own some land a couple of miles upriver... we were camping. I'd love to live there, if I could...
