Unboxing my brand-new Sony 35mm f/1.4 G, the long-missed lens in my fast prime set of f/1.4 lenses, which now consists of the 35mm, 50mm and 85mm.

  • cant help but think they stole the "G" from nikon.......

  • @chaosrealm93 Minolta must have stolen it then, because Sony just inherited the label from them...

  • @hbphotography700 i thought zeiss makes sony's lenses.. =s

  • @chaosrealm93 Zeiss has designed a couple of lenses for Sony, some of which I own, but they really only design and supervise manufacturing. Most of the lenses Sony has are re-badged Minolta's.

  • You will have to wait some years for FF Alpha with video.

I wonder why you haven't spend the money on A850 instead of this lens.

But as long as you are happy with your gear ;o)

  • @gerSick I'm no longer waiting for a FF Sony with video, instead, I have decided to save up for a Leica M9. Which will take a while... : D

I bought this lens because I need the wider focal length and I'm still very happy with my A700. Plus the price of the A850 went up quite a bit here in Holland, so it's even more expensive.

Still, I might be selling this and some of my other lenses in a year or so, to get new glass for the M-system.

  • @hbphotography700 I swear the 'G' symbol is for the new Nikon lenses whereas minolta had the G name since the A mount began as the G lenses were the super expensive lenses!

  • I just bought this lens, its so nice!!!!!!!, no not nice. Its just awesomeee!!!! pure ectasy!!!!!

  • How I wish I can own this lens.

Your are not right on this.

The Sony Zeiss lenss are designed by Zeiss but mass produced in Japan.

Glass is made by Zeiss and they have two serial numbers for glass and body.

The 135mm f/1.8 does only exist for A Mount and is superb.

This 85mm, the 24-70, 16-35, 18-80 crop and the new 24 f/2 are equal or better than Canon/Nikon designs.

There has been some critics on the build quality of some Sony Zeiss lenses but the optical performance is unquestionable Zeiss standard.

  • @mYOzZyKaT ah, i see. thanks for the in depth explanation =)

  • @chaosrealm93 Zeiss only licenses some of the glass and group technology to Sony. The original Zeiss lenses made in Germany cost easily tree times as much as then expensive Sony Zeiss lenses and most are not made with Sony mount. The Sony Zeiss lenses are made by the old Minolta lens division bought by Sony when they entered the DSLR market. Actually Tamron also makes some of Sony lenses with the Sony badge. They are basically re-branded Nikon lenses.

  • @hbphotography700 oh. i see.
