  • This is without a doubt baseball's most memorable moment because it was a 22 minute ovation worth watching from start to finish. I've never seen a more heart wrenching moment about a baseball player connecting with the fans in such an intimate personal level. This was also about the "unbreakable" record set by one of the most beloved athletes of all time Lou Gehrig. Fans voted this MLB's most memorable moment...I couldn't agree more

  • @msm318: So, how do Cal's stats match-up against yours????

  • 2 dislikes? Damn Yankees..... Live, eat, sleep, and breathe Orioles magic!! 98% of the votes into the Hall of Fame I believe... One of the greatest to play the game. Love Cal!!

  • a real life Iron Man!!! Without the roids!! Thank you Cal!!

  • Too many people cite Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa's chase of Maris' home run record as saving baseball after the strike of '94. I think the city of Baltimore, Orioles fans, and real baseball fans everywhere might disagree.

Look up 'Class act' in the baseball dictionary and you'll see Cal Ripken Jr in all capitals.

  • I've never watched this. This is the single most amazing moment in sports I've ever seen before!

  • One Moment in Time... O's fans saw this on HTS (Home Team Sports, now known as CSN Baltimore.)

  • People can judge him all they want, but Cal's one of the best there is in the game. And he wasn't just a mediocre player. He was one of the best shortstops of the game, and probably will go down as one of the best of all time. He gave it his all every single game he played, and not a lot of people can say that. He may not have played to the level Lou Gehrig did in his time, but to break his longtime record of consecutive games played is an incredible achievement that should and will be revered.
