I think that Mickey's business partner, Michael Goodwin, hired the killers. He was convicted, but hasn't revealed who the killers were.

This is the update: In 1978 Thompson partnered with Goodwin to bring outdoor racing indoors.The partnership, however, quickly grew sour and legal battles overallegedly stolen money ruined the business partneris relationship.Goodwin was a prime suspect in the murders from the beginning.

It wasn't cowardly, it was cold blooded.
It was a hired hit.
Whether Goodwin should have been convicted or not as some people are arguing here to me is a moot point.
The man knew something about this even if he didn't order the hit.
This was a very professional hit, the killers use bikes which while risky if police happened to be in the area, seemed to have worked.
It also seemed they were ordered to really rub up in Thomspo face by killing his wife so cruelly before they shot him.

@CesarPhilosophe im with it this was a drug killing and a message being sent by someone.when people like that are facing life with no parole a drug dealer will take you out.the guy convicted of this was a scapegoat.

Michael Goodwin was convicted of ordering these murders and is now serving two consecutive life sentences. These murders were absolutely barbaric. Mickey was begging for Trudy's life, and the gunman grabbed her head, held it up so he could see it, and then shot her in the head. Mickey was then shot dead.
