They used their native language to relay critical battlefield messages during World War II. Now, the ranks of the Navajo Code Talkers are dwindling with age. But some tell the AP's Lee Powell they have a plan to preserve their legacy. (Nov. 10)

  • While driving from Ca to Va to see our grand kids--we stopped at a McDonalds for breakfast.Behind us was 3 people talking a strange language---Navajo.We got up,and looked at the people---the elder had a hat on-with the Marine logo,so I asked if he was a code talker,,,his reply was yes.All I could do was shake his hand and say thank you while I looked him in the eye.It was a honour for me to meet this man.My girl said thank you-placed a kiss on his cheek.

    This was 4 years ago.

  • @48Pocahantas You should be very, VERY honored regarding your heritage. Thank you, thank your grandfather for what he did for our country! I am 1/4 Native Pima; I will ALWAYS honor Ira Hayes and these other Natives and what they did. Your grandfather was one of the men who saved our land! <3
