Android Turning Japanese part 1 of 2: Home Screen and Launcher

Ocean Observations introduces the Brandroid! That's French for an Android GUI in a new set of KDDI clothes, and a few extra moves. And if you would go looking for this phone in Japan, pay attention to IS01, thats the slightly more official name.

So you were actually asked by KDDI to do this? Is it launching on any devices yet?

@AdamKaoru Well, we approached them and after a few concept projects, they decided to use our expertise to help them tackle the Android platform. We are glad they did :)

Thanks! The rearrangement of icons inside the launcher was one of the requirements from KDDI, because they wanted people to be able to customize the launcher in addition to making shortcuts. We're glad the effort shows :)

That's wicked. Apple needs to hire you guys :P

They just hired the dude behind webOS's notifications though, so, I've got hope for iPhone's lackluster notification system to improve at least.

I'm really happy with Google's default Android 2.1 implementation on my Nexus One, but I would LOVE a tablet running Android with this interface. I really like how well thought out the icon arrangement process is.
