I spent two nights in the Japanese town of Koyasan which has about 4,000 citizens and 1,000 monks. I stayed at Shojoshinin and visited the Kondo, Miedo, Konpon Daito, Fudodo, Saito Toto, The Daimon, and Torodo (Lantern Temple) which is part of Okunoin... a giant forest graveyard. On my ipod this day: "Still" by Volcano Choir

  • Beautiful movie, Alex. The photography is superb, I just wish your camera was more stable, but that is a very minor point. I was searching for info about Kôyasan since I plan to visit next year or so, and found your nice video.

  • @andrenuage thanks. you will not regret going. winter is the perfect time to go if you want to avoid crowds. i agree that the camera is a bit shaky... but my hands were getting so cold!

  • Very Nice ,what time of year does it start to snow in Koyasan??

  • @abbeystump. I was there in mid january. i would assume it starts in december.

  • Hi Alex, so which temple is the best to stay at in your opinion?

  • Cool song :)

  • The temple at 6.00 is the Bentendake, right? I've been in Koyasan on the april of 2010. No words for a place like this..tnx a lot for the video from Italy^^

  • This is beautiful - I've visited Koyasan 11 in the last 13 years - it touches ones heart. If you have the opportunity - visit there in the spring time. Koya is always beautiful.

What other cities did you visit?

  • I was there last month, lovely place. Nice video but ditch the music, it ruins what is one of the most peaceful places on earth.

  • Beautiful video; I was there too, last summer, and it is so great to see Koyasan again (but with snow!). Thank you so much.

  • Beautiful.

  • Koyasan....ah, Koyasan.

One of my favorite places in the world. Your video is just amazing. So beautiful.

You should try and go during Oban in August where the Japanese honor their dead. The entire walkway through the cemetery is lit by tiny candles. Breath-taking! I did a book on Blurb about Koyasan but this video is spectacular. Thank you.
