One of the great men's duels of all time...Scott Hamilton vs. David Santee. It might have been preferable for them to split a National/World title so perhaps they could have dueled for 4 years to the 84 Olympics (they were both deserving). But Scott seem to be on a roll, and the expense and committment of skating was quite onerous in the amateur days! Another example of where "hopping off a triple flip" proved quite costly. Lucky Oksana Baeull...

  • This is an open invitation for ANY of David's current or former students, to put your "death drop" on here as a VIDEO RESPONSE!! Maybe we can find some second or even third generation DROPS!!!!!

  • He's my coach!!!!!! He's amazing. Really. Its so great knowing that I can look up to a coach with as much respect as i do to him.

  • yes, it makes a big difference!! How about posting a video of you flying open axel back sit spin as a video response here???!!! We can see if the teaching is wearing of!!!!! best wishes.......did you have a successful competition season??

  • Eh, partially. I mean, I had triple sal, but then I lost it 2 weeks before regionals, double axel after that, then idk, and sure! I'll do flying reverse AND death drop AND butterfly, and post it if possible!

  • I look forward to it!! and that trampoline butterfly thing you do is quite spectacular as well....try putting THAT on ice!! it will make you a Star!!*****

  • His death drop and Brian Boitano's death drop were spectacular in that they got great height, hang time and extended legs in the flight position before landing in the back sit spin. Very explosive. Since then, no one has been able to do even a decent death drop...men or women. Too much emphasis on jumps. Now with programs packed to the rim, there's no room nor energy left to try to perfect each move...sad...

  • I do soo agree, and a very important point!

  • @tripleaxel96

I COMPLETELY agree tripleaxel96 with your comments!!!

Skating today is so boring. All you have now are programs that are front loaded with these elements that supposedly get you the points, but I bet you anything hardly anyone is getting out of their seats. I could look at David Santee's 'deathdrop' forever and NEVER get tired of it. Nowadays, I can hardly sit through an entire program. Skaters can't spin (fast) & there are no more innovative jumps. It's just sad now.

  • O yea?? HES MY UNCLE!!

  • funny the outfits they wore then with the bellbottoms. I love the ending!

  • Always liked this guy. Very inspirational and uplifting skating. I love the part where he skates to the theme from "The Champ." And of course the closing to the music from "Rocky" is outstanding. David did like those boxing movies, didn't he?
