Another Man the Capstan Exhibit Insight, this time chronicling the Royal Marine's sword. Very similar to the Royal Navy sword already highlighted. Visit http://manthecapstan.wordpress.com for more!

  • By the way, I have enjoyed your HD videos. They give a better look at many of these swords than do static photos at online retailers. Thank you!

  • Thank you! We use a Kodak Zi6, which is an inexpensive method that works well. We appreciate your kind and informative comments!

  • This looks like another sword based on the US M1860 cavalry trooper's sword, and not likely to have been used by anyone in the Royal Navy.

  • Yep, we call it the "Royal Marine" sword because it's used by a member of our group that wears a RM uniform; it wouldn't have been very suitable for combat aboard a man-of-war. It was purchased from a retailer that advertised it as a Confederate or Union sword, so US trooper indeed. Thank you for your comments!

  • eBay is a fantastic source of good-quality swords. You can even find decent, museum-quality swords for a good price. Swords of any calibre, naturally, tend to be expensive. I know that Indian and Pakistan manufactured swords tend to be a bit more affordable. A quick cruise around the web, and of course, eBay, can get you going quite easily!
