His head just rips open and some green thing comes out! It's like one of those old fashioned alien movies. Why does it move around so much?

@SmallieM The head isn't ripping open, a larvae for many insects are shells. The real living creature is inside. What a larvae or caterpillar does, is use it's larvae armor to look for food safely so that it will have nutrients to develop its wings, once it has enough food, it begins to fall into deep slumber, though it first has to detach itself from the larvae armor to allow for wings to freely move and grow inside the chrysalis. Detachment of flesh from transparent armor leads to a paleness.
