If you're like me then you are a complete sucker for the big Hollywood blockbuster disaster movies from the Seventies. Also you drink way too much, have alienated all of your friends, and spend entirely too much time at your computer in your underwear. But I guess that is beside the point. Anyhoo, you will definitely want to see "The Swarm", which is quite easily the most side-splittingly funny of all of director Irwin Allen's big budget disaster epics. Featuring hysterical over-the-top performances, gratuitous giant bee hallucinations, a script comprised almost exclusively of dialogue howlers, tons of cheesy special effects, and one of the most unintentionally hilarious end credit disclaimers in history. With an all-star Hollywood ensemble cast. And Cameron Mitchell.

Actually, a movie was made like that. It's title was..get ready for this.."The Bees"

I vaughley remembered it when I saw it as a lil' kid. I saw it just recently, and it was pretty good. Cheesy with some silly parts here and there, but it was pretty good.

It DOES follow the premise you said here. Killer bees invade the Americas, only for one part of the swarm to mutate, becoming as intelligent as man!

Look it up here on Youtube. ;)

Actually, the scenes where the actors are attacked by the bees (1:23), where they fly through the window (1:56) and other such scenes in the movie..all those were REAL bees! Saw it on the "making of" featurette.

The giant swarm sequences though, either they were painstakingly painted into the film, or they used footage of actual be swarms (although I have my doughts)

  • Entertaining movie with more than its fair share of unintentionally overdramatic scenes {Days of Our Lives much?) such as Olivia's elongated "NOOOOOOO!!!!" or Patty Duke and Lee Grant post Valley of the Dolls teaching eachother a thing or two about chewing scenery

  • You know what the next swarm is don't you? yeah, that's right, flying scorpions. Think I'm kidding? Well it's gonna hurt like hell when one of those things come flying at you at 30 mph! you better start preparing.

  • This scared me shitless when i was like six hahaha especially the bit where the boy wakes up in hospital and hallucinates thinking a doctor has a massive bees face. Its seems so trivial now.

  • @commonperson1 it's too easy

  • Get Inside! The Bees are coming get inside!!!

  • I the part where where the trailer guy is like "Man is their enemy" and the next shot is of them trying to escape. lol

  • Why don't they nuke them

  • @TheSnowballEarth ...and maybe John Carpenter could direct.
