If you're like me then you are a complete sucker for the big Hollywood blockbuster disaster movies from the Seventies. Also you drink way too much, have alienated all of your friends, and spend entirely too much time at your computer in your underwear. But I guess that is beside the point. Anyhoo, you will definitely want to see "The Swarm", which is quite easily the most side-splittingly funny of all of director Irwin Allen's big budget disaster epics. Featuring hysterical over-the-top performances, gratuitous giant bee hallucinations, a script comprised almost exclusively of dialogue howlers, tons of cheesy special effects, and one of the most unintentionally hilarious end credit disclaimers in history. With an all-star Hollywood ensemble cast. And Cameron Mitchell.

Ah yes, the old 'colony of killer bees is heading for the US' myth. Did people actually believe that nonsense?! It's now 2012, and still no sign of the evil swarm. What the hell is taking them so long?! Maybe they're flying Delta Airlines, which would explain the 35 year delay so far. :)

They're here, but they were just over played for film and TV thrill factors. The africanized bee situation is kind of serious, but nothing can live up to 70s disaster status.

I vaguely remember the line, "Bees freeze at 45 degrees" - but I was a kid and haven't been able to find a copy of this at libraries, netflix, or blockbuster to watch it again. Guess I could buy it on amazon but it's probably not worth that. Wonder at my memory of the line though! Seems like they herded the swarm into a closed sports dome and turned down the temp to kill them. Only saw it the once though.
