Automatic Drawing

I created this video for artistic, non-commercial purposes. The music in the video was the inspiration for creating the artwork. I filmed myself drawing for roughly 3 hours and listened to "Sail" by AWOLNATION on repeat for the entire time. I edited the video to playback between 1000-2000% faster than the actual time it took me to create the artwork. Essentially you are viewing 3 hours of drawing & painting before the end of the song. The end result is my visual depiction of the sound. The artwork, as well as the video composition is entitled "Automatic Drawing" because 'Surrealist automatism' was the method I used to create this piece of art. I have no intention to sell the artwork. I contacted the record label to obtain permission to use the song in this video for non-commercial purposes. This video was made solely for the passion of art and music. Enjoy.

@directorlog Thanks for the good words. The technique I use is very similar to automatic writing. Automatic drawing was actually developed by the early surrealists. True automatic drawing is allowing the hand or hands to move freely and randomly across the surface in order to create a composition. The artwork in this video was created in a more deliberate manner, but is an expression of my subconscious, none the less. The title was still appropriate for this type of drawing. Nice! These kinds of drawings always fascinate me. I am more of a character artist myself, so I'm not very good at these kinds of pattern drawings. The end result was great! Post more :D

I love this! Whenever I'm painting I can only listen to one song or one artist on repeat. I find that shuffling my iPod distracts me from the mood I'm going for. It bothers the hell out of my family after hearing the same song for so many hours.
