  • Age-related hearing loss (presbycusis) is a gradual process. There are several known causes of presbycusis including changes in the blood supply to the ear and loss of neurons in the cochlea and central nervous system. Generally, presbycusis occurs in both ears affecting them equally. In the beginning, hearing usually deteriorates in the high frequencies which makes understanding speech often difficult.
