I am sorry for not responding sooner. Please go to Southern heritage 411 . com. Better yet check out books by Colonel Chamberlain's Passing of the Armies or Colonel Oates War Between the Union and Confederacy or President Davis' Rise and Fall of the Confederate Government or go to the SCV website and check out their book store. Period material (written by original characters) are always the best sources. History has incredible stories-I hope you dive into that interesting place!
@rebelcry99 could you pint me in the right direction for any books/sites that cover this, I want to send this to my former professor, when I saw that in the movie I really doubted it as well.
@umdpeter Yes, my friend! The 2nd Maine never heard those elegant words of appeal for a war "to make man free." No such language exists in either of Chamberlain's two memoirs. And not only did the killer angels conversation w/ Chamberlain not exist but the Sgt. Kirkland character was fictional too. These fictionalized scenes in Gettysburg embellished the Yankee cause to an absurd degree. The South lost the war so the loss of truth on their behalf is 1 part of that absolution.
@Dmania1000 Chamberlain's speech to the 2nd Maine, the 20th's rescue of the runaway slave, and Chamberlain's position on the 3rd day's battle are the fictional drawbacks of otherwise brilliant movie.
one of the worlds best mods besides gmod but this is definently a second plus i did spell definently wrong so do get on me unless you are a troll them i cant blame you

Pickett for years after the war said of Lee "that old man slaughtered my troops
at Gettysburg", he never forgave him.
