depends on how you pronounce it. When 'the' is pronounced like 'duh', it doesn't follow.

Wow, two David Byrne references when it comes to the Letter People! (The other one was on a website, alluding to the 'portrait picture' of Mr. V, where it looks as if his vest is a bit oversized.)

The Runaway Words are cute, but I think the producers overdid it in the next few expisodes: come on, "the" follows perfectly normal spelling rules!
