  • in "fixing Darren's lathe" thread on madmodder's, you were measuring hole location to fit the angled gib (page 3, 8th post) you used magnetic paralells to measure datum face to first [bolt] hole: was this to find the center of the hole from the edge? did you have to divide the size of the parallel and the dia. of the bolt to get center distance from edge? I have a similar lathe and am trying to do the same.

  • Togaida,

Anything of mine that you find on the site, please use as you see fit.

With regards to the parallel. To find the centre of the hole, I subtracted the full width of the parallel plus half the width of the bolt from the overall reading to arrive at the centre position of the hole from the metal's edge.

Hope this helps you in some way.

  • Normally utube doesn't allow links, but if you put either a search in or type this into your url link at the top of the page, it should take you straight to the site

Replace the [dot] with a full stop

  • Thanks for replying, I figured finding the hole center from edge when I saw the measurements of the parallel, the bolt and the total measurement of the parallel and bolt and came up with the same solution as you did (before looking at your answer, of course). again, thanks.

  • I know this might be a bit late but I read your thread on madmodder, on "fixing Darren's lathe" and found it very enthralling, captivating that I followed it to the end and then found the article "MACHINING IS ONLY A STATE OF MIND." an enlightening read, and true to its word so I hope you don't mind me posting it as a mantra in my shop, as a reminder: there are other ways of doing it other than not doing with what you have.

  • Thx... sent my reg request. So I guess I'll see you there. BTW, you can post links just put them in as you would your normal comments, they are allowed as long as they don't link to anything that's not allowed.

  • Ooh, that's nice.

  • Looks like a worthwhile fix but could not find the site. Any chance of placing a link here? Thanks
