@6stringmike1 My friend, I could not have said it any better. And I agree totally with you. How much money a band racks up at the end of their career is not a proper way to gauge their true success. Dave Mustaine has been very true to his music and his fan by creating several masterpieces.

@sourcecoderC *half* their discography sucks, and the last real thrash song they wrote was in Justice. megadeth, on the other hand, may not be as fast and violent as they were in the Peace sells/Rust in Peace days, but at least they've made some good songs since AND overall are definitely more "thrashy" than metallica. Hell, I dont even know why they are part of the big four. Not to mention all of megadeth's stable lineups hve been more talented.

@6stringmike1 Very very true. Metallica has undoubtedly made some incredible songs, but if you look at it they have released more bad albums than good ones. And they get away with it just because they're metallica when in reality, it is completely unacceptable for any band to have more than half of their discography suck.

@6stringmike1 even when both of the bands were making more radio friendly music, Megadeths riffs were still amazing. metallicas were just kinda eh. not saying that their late nineties albums didnt have good songs. but ever since the mid 90's, metallica kinda faded out with their music whereas megadeth is still putting everything they have into their music.

Mustaine may have tormented himself over the years about living in the shadow of Metallica, but in retrospect, there is no question which band's body of work stands taller. Metallica may have sold more records, but that is a poor metric to go on. To a serious metal fan, the Megadeth library contains more metal magic, whereas Metallica hasn't produced anything inspired since 1991. Dave Mustaine is the architect of modern metal.
