How TTC Collectors Stay Awake

Thursday at around 10:30pm, while some TTC collectors dozed off (http://twitpic.com/z2nrp), the collector at Greenwood station employed a different tactic - blasting classical music at loud volumes (normally there is no music at this station, and yes I'm aware that some stations - like Bathurst - play music to ward off skids).

When asked what was up with the music, he said it was "to stay awake." Note this was taken with an iPhone, so the mic isn't even that good, yet it's still ridiculously loud!

I've always wondered why they play classical music at Kennedy Station as well.

The TTC has been ripping people off for years now. The sleeping dudes are just the tip of the iceberg. We should all consider it a privilege to pay $120 a month for TTC dudes to sleep and take 20 minute breaks while we have the privilege of standing in the cold. Fire them all and start over. Couldn't get worse for the dough they are stealing now.

@zaleneke The TTC is one of few public systems that allow you to move across the city 24 hours a day for $3. If you have a problem with that, walk, take a cab, or go fuck yourself. I also don't know where you get this notion that you are forced to freeze in the cold. If you are referring the buses, the drivers have no control over scheduling.

@zaleneke the reason is those TTC workers are tired and as you know we are only human we need sleep but they have to work to pay their bills so really stop blaming the TTC workers they work long hours just to keep the TTC running.....

I noticed alot of people are asking why classical music is playing. The reason is that classical music has been proven to detract certain unwanted elements... criminals, troublemakers you know. For them it's a turn off and psychologically deters them from committing trouble.
