Feast of St Catherine of Alexandria, V.M. 2009
Malta is rich in culture and the feasts are an integral part of our culture. This video shows some street decorations, the church and then the procession that is held each year on the 1st Sunday of September in the village of Żurrieq, Malta.
Żurrieq was already a Parish 1436. The present church was built in 1659 on plans by Matteolo Saliba.
It was enlarged in 1758 and in 1867 the facade was changed and the belfry towers added. The titular painting is the work of Mattia Preti (1679). The statue of St Catherine was made by Marjanu Gerada in 1818.
The union between Żurrieq and St Catherine V.M. is very old. The first document where St Catherine was known to be the Patron Saint of Żurrieq dates back to the year 1506.
The hymns you hear are the "Supremazija" composed by Mro Nikola Buġeja and a segment of the hymn of St Catherine composed by Mro Espedito Deguara both played by the Banda Santa Katarina of Żurrieq.
We extend our thanks to the Band Club Secretary, Joseph Darmanin and to the Station Manager of Radju Santa Katarina 90.6 FM, Josef Cachia, for their cooperation and assistance.

@robzamm Grazzi hafna for your kind words and appreciation. The Village of Zurieq is indeed very beautiful and is rich in culture, arts and history. The villagers are very warm and hospitable. During our visits, the villagers even kindly briefed us about the history of the village and what to see around the area.
We haven't visited the other Feast yet but we have already kept that in mind to visiting the equally beautiful Feast of VTK.
